OUR APIARY

Smith Lake Farm is a small commercial apiary on Vancouver Island. We breed bees specifically suited to the West Coast climate — mite-resistant, tolerant of cold and wet weather, and genuinely gentle. We believe this mission is fundamental to local food security and healthy hives across the Comox Valley.
We use science-based beekeeping methods and collaborate with other apiaries on a local breeding programme designed to give our bees the best possible chance of surviving seasonal challenges in long-term health. We love these bees — and we love sharing them.
Mite-resistant breeding
Our bees are selectively bred to resist Varroa mites — one of the biggest threats to hive health globally.
West Coast climate adapted
Cold, wet winters are tough on hives. Our breeding programme creates bees that thrive in BC conditions.
Raw local honey
We sell honey directly from our hives — unprocessed, seasonal, and unique to our lands wetland flora.
Community collaboration
We work with other Comox Valley apiaries to strengthen local bee populations across the region.
