Smith Lake Farm is a destination disc golf course you don’t want to miss. Here’s why. The course: Smith Lake farm is a 90 acres lakefront farm located in the heart of the Comox Valley. The disc golf course runs through 40 acres of the property. Starting in pastures near the farmstead the holes snake into the forest for some challenging, par threes and par fours. Currently it finishes with some bomber lines in their 10 acre hayfield. The course is and will always be changing. The farm is a farm first and the cattle are moved from pasture to pasture (and the grass grows up) causing holes closures and openings as the living lawnmowers are moved around the property making for an interesting and ever changing layout. The course is not a pay to play course but a ‘buy farm goods to play’ course. Play golf. Bring home dinner. Win-win. The farm: The farm has cattle and an apiary (bees) and offers beekeeping lessons to all those staying on the farm. There is a tiny house you can rent year round and in the summer they have 6 glamping sites that are perfect for up to 4 friends or a family and some of the accommodations are dog friendly. Off- season camping is also available until mid May and after mid September. Not just disc golf: If disc golf isn’t your significant others thing - no worries - lake time, amazing bubble Sauna, nearby beaches, trails, farmers markets, great food and other experience in the City of Courtenay - only 15 minutes from the farm- mean that this place isn’t just a disc golf destination but ….

With that in mind, here are my suggestions for the top 5 reasons to visit Smith Lake Farm in short form: 1. A well maintained and well designed course suitable for all but with challenges for any level of player. 2. A swimmable lake with divable docks and a bubble sauna to warm up in before or after your swim. 3. On site activities that are both educational and fun for the whole family. (thinking the bee stuff here) 4. Close proximity to a sandy ocean beach, a world class network of mountain bike trails, and the shopping and dining experiences available in Cumberland, Comox and Courtenay. 5. A range of comfortable and tranquil accommodations from the Tiny House to Glampsites.

I would say this, the advantage of this is reaching the lower mainland discers and so should tailor to them. The big complaint I hear from those people is how crowded the courses are, apparently you sometimes have to wait 20 to 40 minutes in a line at Tee One just to get going. So how are you relieving this pain point for them? You are selling a quiet, tranquil and undisturbed experience. The course is not crowded, there are lots of enjoyable things for the non-discing family members and you can find the peace you need to just focus on the joy of playing disc golf here.
